There is something about the bomber jacket, it oozes cool without trying too hard, it has the ability to go with most things, and this season they seem to be everywhere thanks in part to the gorgeous embroidered beauties that Gucci sent down its spring/summer 2016 catwalk. I also love the nostalgic vibe about the bomber jacket, yeah I know it was originally designed for pilots during the war, but to me it will always be about the nineties wearing it over slip dresses and clunky boots, it was as close as I got to the grunge trend. I also have to give it to the bomber jacket for being so versatile, I can’t think of anything it doesn’t go with, it looks good teamed with skinny ripped jeans as it does with a fitted pencil skirt, sleek trousers, and even a voluminous skater skirt.
Bomber jackets were everywhere during London Fashion Week, the embroidered beauties were high in demand, and I saw them teamed with jeans, silk maxi skirts, cropped trousers, mini skirts, as well as dressed up for parties. So with that in mind, I thought the trusty bomber jacket needed to be the star in this week’s Friday Favourites. I’ve picked out my favs, including a few girlie options to ease you into the trend if you are worried you can’t pull off this utilitarian look, as well as some classic styles.
Bomber Jackets: 1. Urban Outfitters – Urban Renewal Vintage Surplus NASA Patch MA1 Black Bomber Jacket, £56 // 2. Topshop – Punch-Textured Bomber Jacket, £55 // 3. Boohoo – Sara MA1 Bomber, £20 // 4. New Look – Black Floral Print Bomber Jacket, £27.99 // 5. Zara – Embroidered Studio Bomber, £69.99 // 6. Missguided – Zip Detail Utility Bomber Jacket, £35 //
I have two favourites, first has to be the girlie pink beauty from Topshop, I love the colour as well its softer utilitarian look and the punch-texturing really adds a sporty vibe. Team this pink bomber jacket with light-wash cropped jeans and metallic trainers and you will have one cool, casual look.
My second favourite is the other end of the scale, the vintage-vibe bomber from Urban Outfitters, I do love adding patches and pins to denim and leather jackets to make them more personal, and this beauty has already done it for you and what’s cooler than having a NASA patch. I also adore the silky satin finish.
Want to just stick with a classic bomber? Well, you can’t go wrong with Boohoo’s Sara MA1, for the £20 price tag this jacket is a bargain, plus it comes in four different colours – navy, khaki, red and black. I also love the popper stud pockets. Another classic, with a cheaper price tag, is the zip detail utility-style bomber from Missguided, a £35 it is a great buy, and you can’t go wrong with a black bomber.
For a little fun, maybe for a dresser look, why not try Zara’s embroidered bomber, I saw this in store and it is a beauty, so get hunting, it will look great with a pair of patchwork jeans come festival season, and for something to pair over a little black dress try New Look’s floral print bomber, great price tag at under £30.
