A highlight for me every couture season has to be Giambattista Valli, his expression of fashion and design through an explosion of tulle is my kind of fairytale fashion, which is exactly what I love about haute couture. For spring 2016, Giambattista Valli has continued his signature frothy, feminine and floral over-the-top gowns, as an ode to Paris and the romantic city, and you might have noticed that one of the standout looks is very similar to the voluminous, ruffled, pink gown that Rihanna wore on the Grammys red carpet.
The couture catwalk for spring always makes me think award season and I would love to think that these sweet Princess gowns would appeal to some of the younger nominated actresses, I’m looking at you Alicia Vikander, Brie Larson and Saoirse Ronan. Don’t you think the frothy ruffled grey floor-length gown would be perfect for Alicia, the long sleek black gown with a thigh-high split would look incredible on Brie while Saoirse would rock one of these gorgeous tea-length looks.
It wasn’t just about over-the-top swoon-worthy gowns, even though each one did make my heart skip a beat, there are a lot of different silhouettes to keep Giambattista Valli couture customers happy. There were the 60s-inspired mini cocktail dresses, which I’m sure stylists will be picking up for photocalls, then there were a some gorgeous empire-waist gowns, dresses with bishop sleeves, and closing the show was his voluminous, tulle beauties. I also loved the use of texture in the collection, from the ruffle of tulle to the colourful embroideries and appliqués, and the lace macramé.
