London Fashion Week feels so long ago now, we’ve already had Milan and now the fashion pack is in Paris, but I think once you scroll down and see this post you will agree it was worth the wait, as for spring/summer 2016, Sophia Webster showcased her new #CrazySexyNautiCool collection in a fantasy mermaid launderette set-up. Yes, mermaid’s came to shore to wash their tails and wear their favourite shoes and it was incredible.
One thing that you are guaranteed with Sophia Webster is a fun, kooky presentation, we’ve had futuristic and a secret garden party, and now the British footwear designer who has been taking the fashion world by storm, decided on a nautical theme that was fun, romantic and cool.
Click for more pictures and information about the collection and step inside the presentation with my little video.
What made this presentation had to be the staging created by acclaimed set designer Shona Heath, I was mesmerised by the mermaid, she had a moving tail, as well as models just casually lying down in a giant oyster shell, which kind of reminded me of the Little Mermaid, and there was even a model sat inside a washing machine. For me, the Sophia Webster presentation is always a highlight, but I think I may have even squealed a little at this setup. I have to be honest it’s a life-long ambition for me to own a unicorn and become a mermaid, so Sophia Webster’s imagination is right up my street.
The collection itself was just as amazing as the set, vibrant with a nod to the ocean with marine motifs seen on heels and clutches, sandals covered with deep-sea coral, multi-strap sandals printed in a sea-blue tie-dye, as well as statement thigh-high sandals with multicoloured or black netting up the leg, which will not be for the faint-hearted. As well as loving all the amazing new designs I really did adore the models sporting swimming caps and vintage-inspired bathing suits they really suited the collection.
It wouldn’t be a Sophia Webster collection without her signature witty slogans on the shoes and speech-mark bags and for SS16 we have “Don’t Be Jelly”, “Beach Babe”, “Naughty Cool”, and “Beach Baby,” which, of course, comes on tiny baby-sized shoes.
As well as the fun, which her core fans will love, love, love, there was also a more up-market glamour about some of the shoes and bags, with metallics and pearlised colours standing out, with the clutches featuring oversized pearls on the fastener.
I can’t decide which pair is my favourite – I think it might be the coral ones, but when it comes to the bags it has to be “Don’t Be Jelly”. Serious in love with Sophia Webster’s #CrazySexyNauticool collection.
