If smell-o-vision existed, I’d insist you turn it on, as you’d be able to smell the gorgeous aromas of lavender just by looking at these images. As soon as I saw this Fearne Cotton for Very maxi dress, I knew instantly that I wanted to shoot in a field of purple, and I’m so glad that Hitchin Lavender Farm is so close to me as it was such a fun afternoon prancing around in this gorgeous dress.
I pass this lavender farm on the train, the rows and rows of purple really standout against the fields of green, but nothing prepared me for the intense smell of the lavender, it really was intoxicating and calming. I think just being there put me in a more happy and contented mood, and I love that you can also pick your own lavender to take home, as well as indulge in delicious carrot cake at the cafe, seriously this place is incredible.
I’ve never really been one to wear purple, I’ve always thought if you’re going to go wear dark clothing I’d much prefer black, but there is something special about this all-over floral print. It is just fun and summery, and I just adore the floaty silhouette, which as well as being sexy with the side splits is super flattering with the high-waist gathering and capped sleeves. This has to be one of the most fun shoots I have done on Fashionista Barbie and I really think the pink and purple print really pops beautifully against the lavender rows.
As well as having fun posing among the bees and butterflies, and amusing a truck load of tourists, I also got to pick lots of lavender, two huge bags full. The smell is so incredible that I’m planning to tie bunches up all around the house, as well as make pretty displays, and I promise I will share all the magic on Instagram. I have a lot though so I’ve started pinning ideas to a new lavender board on Pinterest.
I’m quite intrigued by making lavender lemonade, I tasted it at the cafe and it was so delicious I might make up a batch, as well as drying the flower for a perfume bags. There are just so many things you can do, just one of the many reasons why I’m in love with lavender.
Are you a fan of lavender and for that matter wearing purple?
