Yeah to the recent warm weather, it finally feels like summer, so of course I rushed over to spend the weekend by the sea in Aldeburgh, a pretty seaside town in Sussex. As the weather was so lovely and the setting so beautiful, I thought it would be a cool idea to do a summer lookbook editorial focusing on denim, you know me I love a bit of denim, as well as showcase a few current trends I’m loving, off-the-shoulder and fun lace tops, as well as present my favourite pieces from the Caravelle New York spring/summer 2015 collection.
There are three looks: denim shorts, a fun and flirty denim skirt, as well as my trusty light blue skinnies that I seem to always wear during the warmer months, teamed with a few new favourites.
Look 1 – Denim Shorts
A summer staple, I can’t get through the summer without cracking out a pair of denim shorts and these ripped up beauties from River Island **sorry, last season, but check out at the end of the blog post for options**, really do work with so many looks, whether it’s a tee, biker boots, shirt, brogues, or even flip-flops, it just meets so many summery needs.
For me a cute tee is the perfect match, I’m kind of loving all the lace styles on offer, and this one, which I actually picked up in an airport from Fat Face is a favourite. I love how comfortable it is to wear, while adding a pop of colour to my outfit, plus I think it goes so well with my pink crocodile embossed leather Caravelle New York watch.
I have a lot of watches, I might be a little obsessed, but most of my pink styles are generally sporty, so it’s nice to show off this fabulous dressy watch, just check out the sparkle of those diamonds. I just love that it can be easily dressed up, while still adding a fun vibe to a casual look.
My Style: Denim shorts, River Island // Lace top, Fat Face // Flats, Crocs (c/o) // Watch – 44L169, Caravelle New York (c/o) //
Look 2 – Denim Skirt
Fun and flirty is what a denim mini should be, this bleached Topshop skater skirt is just that, and it was perfect for a walk down the seafront, well until a huge breeze came my way. Aldeburgh is such a quaint seaside town, I’ve fallen for the candy-coloured houses, the shingle beach, cute little cottages, the Scallop sculpture, fresh fish shacks, and most of all its fish and chips, which was so worth the wait, the queue was literally round the block.
This is a go-to look, throw on a denim skirt, add a stripy top, cute flats and a stack of arm candy, including my masculine classic black leather strap Caravelle New York watch, it means we can get out as quick as possible to enjoy the amazing weather. Stripy tops must fill up a good 25% of my wardrobe, I love them, I feel like I should have been Parisian, and I’m loving this cute cropped off-the-shoulder style from Primark, it adds a fun, feminine kick to the look.
My Style: Denim skirt, Topshop // Stripy top, Primark // Flats, Crocs (c/o) // Bag, Village England (c/o) // Watch – 43B143, Caravelle New York (c/o) //
Look 3 – Denim Jeans
Possibly my favourite of the three denim looks, and most worn look, my trusty skinny jeans from Ida by Donna Ida, and they work perfectly in this changeable weather, where the sun might be shining but there is a chill in the air, and there certainly was when we went to dinner so I was so glad I packed these jeans so we could sit outside and enjoy the gorgeous blue skies.
Again with the off-the-shoulder top, there are so many different styles out there, but I love this cheese-cloth version, slouchy, cool, and just uber-comfortable with a feminine ruffle, perfect for date night by the sea. I also love that as the night goes on and the chill comes in you can wear it like a normal top, covering the shoulders, and it still looks great.
For my final denim look I needed a chic watch and this white and gold beauty is one of my favourites, and if you love it like I do keep an eye out for my blog post next week as I Caravelle New York have kindly given me an extra one to giveaway.
So what are your summer denim staples?
