I always have a huge debate with myself about featuring press previews on my blog, do you guys want to see something that you can’t buy for 6 months, and it really comes down to how much I love the collection, and after attending the Karen Millen autumn/winter 2015 preview, which was very much like a presentation you would see at London Fashion Week, and loving everything, I thought that you guys would love to see what’s coming, as who doesn’t like to make wishlists ahead of a new season dropping into stores.
Based around the concept ‘Desirability, Confidence and Ease’, the AW15 collection has a touch of elegant bohemian about it, with a nod to the 1970s featuring shearling, gorgeous tailoring in a camel hue, vintage print dresses, pleated skirts, and fringed bags. There is something about Karen Millen, it is my place to pick up quality tailored pieces, statement eveningwear, and dreamy knits, but this collection really blew my mind, I love the modern autumnal palette mixing traditional shades likes deep burgundy, red, black and royal blue, with the warm soft toffee and caramel hues and winter whites, as well as the gorgeous feminine silhouettes and the way it revolves around effortless style.
Instead of just bombarding you with images of the presentation I thought I would pick out the five key things I’m getting excited about from the Karen Millen AW15 collection:
1. Shearling beauty
Starting off with possibly my favourite piece from the stunning collection, this uber-luxurious sleeveless bubbly shearling coat, how yummy is this beauty. I love how it was styled in the presentation with an oversized rollneck, it works in the same white hue, but would also look great in black or even grey, just think how versatile this piece will be for autumn/winter.
Shearling really is a key trend for AW15, designers and the high street have embraced it, and this like the ones I saw at the AllSaints presentation are high on my wishlist to look out for come September.
2. Bags, bags, bags
Regular readers you will already know about my obsession with bags, you really can never have too many, and like many other high street brands Karen Millen is upping its accessories game and its handbag collection from roomy totes to simple clutches are on point for autumn/winter. I have to be honest Karen Millen isn’t somewhere I would look for a handbag, I have no explanation as to why, but I was so impressed with the amount that they are set to offer, the quality of the leather pieces, as well as the fun, trend-led styles such as the fringed beauty and this Chloe-esq saddle bag, which FYI is top of my wishlist, look at that buttery tan colour.
3. Winter Warmers
My wardrobe is filled with cosy, quality Karen Millen knits, they really are some of the best on the market, they cost a little more but so worth it, and the AW15 collection has some gorgeous winter warmers from skinny rollnecks with chunky rope knit detailing to oversized rollnecks that just look so good layered under leather jackets.
Then you have the outerwear, another obsession – I love coats, and as well as the shearling beauty I have my eye on this wear-over-everything striped horse blanket coat, I love the leather piped detailing, and this classic trench coat, always a great addition to any wardrobe. Also in Karen Millen style the leather jackets were insane and the one that stood out had to be the one with shearling lining, how cosy-chic does that look.
4. Beautiful timepieces
Hands up if you didn’t know that Karen Millen did watches, if like me you were clueless then get ready for these sleek timepieces. There really is something for everyone in the watches line, from sharp professional watch faces with soft leather straps to delicate rose gold beauties with simple faces, and statement gold pieces with multi-dial faces. I basically want them all!!!
Karen Millen eveningwear is always a high point, they really do flattering modern dresses really well, and I love their attention to detail, their use of embellishments, lace, and different fabrics. For AW15 there is a dark elegance to the collection, from my favourite piece a stunning flared dress embroidered with delicate red and white flowers to a sexy high-necked, long-sleeved lace dress. Other highlights include jumpsuits with lace panels, sequinned tops and blazers, as well as heavily embellished collars.
