Cannes 2015: Opening Ceremony – Naomi Watts and Julianne Moore

There is something special about Cannes, maybe even more so than the Oscars, and that’s because everyone gracing the red carpet really does go big, always glamorous, and most importantly very over-the-top. The film festival really does deliver great red carpet magic for nearly 2-weeks, it is pure bliss for someone like me who is obsessed by gorgeous gowns, and the opening day really did set a high standard.

As always Cannes attracts all the top actresses, some of my favourite Diane Kruger moments have been in this French Riviera town, I still get goosebumps when I look at this Jason Wu Barbie pink dress from 2010, and do you remember this stunning Dior Couture gown and gorgeous Giambattista Valli Couture gown both from 2012, so I’m more than a little excited to see her later in the festival to support her film ‘Maryland’.

As well as Diane Kruger, the festival red carpet will also host Charlize Theron, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Emma Stone, Salma Hayek, Rachel Weisz, Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Emily Blunt, and Marion Cotillard, to name a few, all know how to rock a red carpet and I can’t wait to see what they wear.

Last night was the Opening Ceremony of the 68th International Cannes Film Festival and the premiere of ‘La Tete Haute’, and it was one hell of a red carpet with Naomi Watts, Julianne Moore, Lupita Nyong’o and Fan Bingbing really shining out.

Naomi Watts in Elie Saab

First look I saw was Naomi Watts wearing this exquisite powder blue Elie Saab Haute Couture gown and I was in love. How beautiful is this gown, I love the full embroidered top, but this beauty is all about that feather skirt. Simply divine and a great pick from the spring/summer 2015 collection. The only thing I’m not a 100% sold on has to be that heavy necklace, I’m not sure it was needed to be honest.

Julianne Moore in Giorgio Armani Privè and Chopard

Julianne Moore always impresses, she really did have a great award season, but this Giorgio Armani Privè is on a whole other level, the detailing and drama of this gown is perfection. Add to that her stunning pear-shaped emerald Chopard earrings, slick hair and dramatic eyes and you have a flawless red carpet look. Love it.

Lupita Nyong’o in Gucci and Chopard

I love that Lupita Nyong’o doesn’t shy away from colour, this one-of-a-kind jade coloured embroidered chiffon Gucci gown is divine and suits her romantic, feminine red carpet personality. As well as loving the colour, I was blown away by the embroidered crystal and floral details it really added an extra layer to this gorgeous gown, and they went so well with her pink quartz, rubellites and diamond Chopard earrings. As always one thing that really impressed had to be her hair and make-up, I love that pop of purple on her lips, and the elegance of her up-do.  Gucci-Lupita ralph-and-russo-fan-bingbing

Fan Bingbing in Ralph & Russo and Chopard

Then we had Chinese superstar Fan Bingbing, who always makes Cannes her shining moment, and she didn’t disappoint in this regal Ralph & Russo Couture gown with cape detailing. I love that she always looks like she is wearing a piece of art, the embroidered blossom detailing on this gown is just insanely beautiful. The gown works perfectly with her pear-shaped emeralds and white diamonds Chopard earrings. The only thing throwing this look off slightly for me has to be that Louis Vuitton clutch, I think she should have left that in the car. I’m being uber picky though as she really is super stunning.
