When the Rodarte AW14 collection ended with five sci-fi gowns featuring Star Wars, fashion editors were divided, some thought it was silly and a gimmick, others loved how fun and cool it was. I have to be honest I was on the fun and cool side. Sometimes fashion takes itself way too serious and I love that Rodarte do generally step out and do something different.
Granted I can’t see the average Joe wearing these pieces, or even a celebrity on a red carpet, but they really are made for an editorial shoot and I love that Paper magazine for their 30th-anniversary edition took the five dresses to George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch.
So the dresses were already cool, but now they have the creator’s seal of approval, plus they are being modelled by model-of-the-moment Ali Michael in a gorgeous setting, along with a few Star Wars most iconic characters, C-3PO, R2-D2 and Darth Vader. You don’t really get better than that!!!
I really do love fun shoots and this one by Todd Cole is certainly that. I think my favourite shot has to be the one with Luke Skywalker on the dress, I love how it blends into the setting.
