I find beauty a challenge, I love beauty products and seem to stock up on the latest trend and ones with pretty packaging, but I am not very good at doing my own make-up other than the basics, so when Yves Saint Laurent invited me to have a one-to-one make-up masterclass with the amazing Fred Letailleur, the man behind Cara Delevigne’s latest YSL beauty ads, I jumped at the chance.

The makeover was all about the eyes to celebrate the launch of YSL’s new Couture Palettes, a collection of eight different eyeshadow palettes, each inspired by a timeless fashion collection from the house of YSL – ranging from browns, classic black and grey, as well as vibrant greens and purples. What I love about this product, other than the luxurious gold packaging, is that it is really geared to allow anyone, even me, to put together a great eye make-up look with its five complementary hues including a base and highlighter colour to sculpt and illuminate the eye, which Fred said was very important.

Fred used four key products in the eye make-up lesson – the iconic Touche Éclat highlighter pen, which he used to hide my dark circles under my eyes as well as highlight the brow bone, the Baby Doll mascara, which I love as it made my lashes super thick, as well as a black eye pencil to create dramatic couture-style eyes. He was really speedy, which gives me hope that when I do it myself it won’t take me hours, and I love that each palette comes with a full tutorial on how to recreate the look of the ads.

I always love having my eyes done, when you wear glasses it is nice to show off what’s underneath instead of hiding the eyes away and I really loved how vibrant the colours looked and how easily they blended together. The look is definitely something I will be attempting to recreate and I will be utilising the new YSL Eye Style platform that features lots of videos and how-to-guides created by Fred, I can’t wait to try the how to achieve the perfect cat-flick.

As well as being a hub of beauty secrets, the YSL Eye Style platform is also asking readers to upload a shot of their eye make up for the chance to win prizes each month from June to August, then one overall winner will win a personal masterclass with Fred, a trip to London, and a hamper containing £500 of YSL make-up. So don’t forget to upload your Eye Style and share on social media with the hashtag #YSLEyeStyle.
