One of the biggest trends to come off the catwalk over the past few seasons has been clashing prints, we’ve seen it on the runways of DVF, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Erdem, Proenza Schouler, Dries Van Noten and Mary Katrantzou, we’ve had stripes, polka dots, floral, animal, retro psychedelic, and even checks, and it has been adopted by many celebrities including Beyonce, Olivia Palermo and my girl crush Diane Kruger, and it was a huge hit for street style snappers during fashion week.
This week Diane gave us a masterclass in perfecting the art of wearing clashing prints for her appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel Live TV show in America. Wearing a look from the Emanuel Ungaro’s Resort 2014 collection, she looked incredible mixing her blue, white and peach spotty t-shirt with a black thigh-high split skirt featuring printed daises as well as peach and blue stripes.
What I love about this look, other than the combination of the print clash, I think polka dots works really well, especially the different colour spots on the front and back, but it is the sexiness of the floral printed skirt with that thigh-high split that breaks up all the colour and makes it work for me.
I also think that her barely there make-up, loose waves and cinched in waist act as neutralisers in the look, like the thigh-high split, breaking up the clashing prints – I love it from head-to-toe.
