Oscars 2013: Anne Hathaway In Prada

February 25, 2013

Oscars-anne-hathaway-tiffanys

Who: Best Supporting Actress winner Anne Hathaway

Where: At the 85th Annual Academy awards held in Los Angeles

Wearing: A custom pale pink satin column Prada gown, featuring a high neckline, an open back, and a slit to the back of the skirt, teamed with a Roger Vivier ‘Pilgrim’ clutch in blush satin with crystal buckle, Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, and a Tiffany & Co diamond necklace from the 2013 Blue Book Collection, Lucida earrings and diamond bracelets

Verdict: With Anne Hathaway an odds-on favourite to pick up the Best Supporting Actress gong, which she did win last night, I was expecting something dramatic, a statement, something that would wow me.

Unfortunately this Prada gown left me underwhelmed, it isn’t that it is an awful dress it isn’t, it is pretty, a little too much like Gwyneth Paltrow’s pink Ralph Lauren from her Oscar win, but it just didn’t have the wow factor of an Oscar winner – it was a little too safe.

The back was a little more interesting, just, but I think her floral Tiffany & Co necklace seemed to conflict with her criss-cross straps of the open back of the dress, I like the idea of the back necklace but it just didn’t work for me as much as it did for Jennifer Lawrence.

There was talk that Anne was going to wear a Valentino Haute Couture gown, even the fashion house thought so, but she dismissed claims saying that she chose the Prada three hours before the show – but it has left me wondering what the Valentino would have looked like!!!
