NYFW: Victoria Beckham – When Military-Met-Sporty

Victoria Beckham has proved that she is a force to be reckoned with in the fashion industry with her latest collection – I just absolutely loved it all. This collection really showed how much the label has evolved, her trademark fitted dresses were still present and looking amazing, but they were joined by beautifully tailored coats, flirty skirts and lots of cute details such as baseball collars, as well as military epaulettes and buttons.

This was a capsule collection of 22 day dresses, or as Victoria put it ‘workwear’ featuring shorter cocktail and day dresses, which was just a taster of the autumn/winter 2012 line. I have to admit my first thought was that there wasn’t any formal eveningwear, which I am sure was worrying a few stylists, but apparently there are options in the showroom for buyers and celebrities to feast on for the Oscars.

I loved her use of colour against a mainly black palette, the pops of red and sky blue looked amazing against the autumnal olive and maroon tones. Her use of contrasting colourways worked well on the sporty dresses, as did the inclusion of the magic trick dress that makes you look slimmer with the centre panel in a different colour – but most of all I adored the baseball-style collars and the styling of football socks slouched down with motorbike boots.

Overall this collection had all of her touches with the figure-hugging silhouettes but with an added confidence with the addition of gorgeous tailored coats, and I just adored the added twists of flirty short sleeveless dresses with epaulettes but nothing to hang them onto, as well as the harness-style straps, gold military button details and the exposed zips down the back of the dresses.

There was also a nod to her family for autumn/winter with David snapping away on the front row to the beanies inspired by his favourite headgear, and the baseball style touches coming from their son Romeo, and there was even a bag named after baby girl Harper.
