Yesterday my Twitter was full of everyone venturing out to the sales, which is crazy when there are so many bargains to be had online, and this means like I am doing now you get to spend another day in your Christmas PJs!!!
But don’t forget the golden rule – if you wouldn’t buy it at full price, think twice – just because it is a good price it doesn’t mean that you’ll ever wear/use/carry it!!!
I always find I buy a lot of handbags in the sales, if like me you go for classic shapes then you can really pick up a great designer bargain. Go for neutral colours that you can use everywhere, and don’t even bother if it isn’t at least 40% off unless you have been eyeing it up all season. My favourite stops have to be Mulberry, Rebecca Minkoff – but get in quick it ends Thursday, and also not forgetting the large department stores – Harrods, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols - all great places to pick up an online accessory bargain.
When it comes to clothing – think about what you need, what you will wear, and especially what will complement your existing wardrobe. I am terrible for buying clothes just because they were a great bargain and never wearing them. But also use the sales as an opportunity to pick up those goodies you have wanted but couldn’t afford, especially when it comes to designer labels – two of my favourite labels, which I can’t afford is Isabel Marant and Sonia Rykiel – well lucky for me Liberty also loves the French and their online sale has discounts of up to 50% off. Matches, Net-a-Porter and My-Wardrobe are also great places to pick up designer bargains.
But the thing I probably wear the most is denim, so the sales are the perfect time to pick up uber-flattering designer denim jeans. The rule is stick to the shape you like, for instance if you are a skinny jeans type of gal, then just upgrade the label. Solid choices are J Brand, Mother Denim and MiH Jeans.
My first stop for designer denim is always Donna Ida and at the moment the denim boutique has a great up to 70% off sale, and the best bit the website is amazing to search on – either by brand, body shape, stretch, size and even colour – if you are after something specific. Another great place is Harvey Nichols and at the moment they have up to 50% off designer names.
Lets not forget the high street, tons of bargains to be had – for me I stick to tailored pieces and basics that don’t go out of fashion, or pick up another winter coat, or maybe that wacky piece that you love but was just a little pricey before the sales.
