LFW SS12: Ada Zanditon – Poseisus Video

Ada Zanditon presented her spring/summer 2012 collection Poseisus, as part of London Fashion Week’s digital schedule, with a film inspired by her collection created in collaboration with film makers Andrew and William Ho.

I am liking the idea of digital presentations especially for emerging designers, not only are they a great visual representation of what inspired the collection, but they are also great means to promote the collection after fashion week has packed up.

This film from ethical designer Ada Zandition was particularly good, I loved the story of the film, which follows the journey of the heroine Poseisus through an urban landscape. It is not only a great visual treat of the London skyline, but also shows off her inspirations of the Greek goddess of the sea and British seahorses The Spiny Seahorse and The Short Snouted Seahorse.

“In the fragile seagrass beds of England’s southeast coast, lives the mythical Poseisus. She begins her metamorphic journey towards the distant tropical shores of Haiti as the rumbled call of the Haitian Kanaval drums ripple and swell the ocean tide, drawing in the ornate Seahorse.  She finally emerges from the glistening crystal water, her outer skin transformed into a magnificent Kanaval dress as she steps onto the sand in human form.”

The ready-to-wear collection fuses innovative shapes and intricate prints, shot mostly against a monochrome backdrop, I just loved the movement and elegance of the pieces. I am so glad that come the end of the film that the vivid colours came through, and that Ada’s signature structured and geometrically cut silhouettes were as strong as ever. The showpiece Athena dress is simply divine, fusing contrasting fluid kaleidoscopic print with three-dimensional structured organza detail and a distinctive voluminous shoulder. I really can’t wait to see these gorgeous dresses up close during press day season.

But as with Holly Fulton, Peter Pilotto, and Mary Katrantzou underwater influences really do seem to be a theme of spring/summer 2012.
