NYFW AW11: Rebecca Minkoff Delievers Bohemian Chic

I do love it when designers have live bands playing during their shows, it really does add something a little special and Rebecca Minkoff got it just right with The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, they really did introduce a bohemian gypsy flavour to proceedings.

This was RM’s debut runway show at New York Fashion Week, she has presented before but hasn’t done the full scale catwalk before, and you certainly couldn’t tell as everything from the styling, the clothes to the gorgeous handbags which she is known for were amazing, and it even attracted a celebrity crowd to the front row. Of course her pal Agyness Deyn was present, as were a number of Gossip Girl and The Hills stars – each known for carrying her gorgeous handbags.

For autumn/winter 2011, Rebecca was inspired by model Charlotte Kemp Muhl, and girlfriend of Sean Lennon *one-half of TGoaSTT*, so basically this is a collection for cool girls who want to have a mixture of bohemian and luxury.

Highlights for me had to be the maxi skirts with amazing prints, the oversized sweaters – especially the black sparkly off-the-shoulder jumper teamed with a leopard print skirt with an asymmetrical hem, black cigarette pants with patches on the knees *oh how I wish I was skinny either to wear*, and the leopard print jumpsuit I can see hitting a red carpet for a premiere or an MTV-style awards.

These three gorgeous dresses I can totally see being picked up by celebrities for promo and photo calls, as they are edgy and sexy with a casual appeal to them. I particularly love the watercolour print effect on the middle body-con dress – this would be amazing on Leighton Meester.

I have to put it out there I am not a fan of fur, and there was a little of it in this show, mainly as trims to the trench coats and jumpers.

There was a lot to take though from this collection, I loved the bohemian casual vibes to the pieces, the slouchy jumpers and the boyfriend blazers, as well as the use of tweed, leather and layering, and then adding in the romantic feel with the dresses, it was certainly a collection for the cool girls *fingers crossed I’m one of them*.

The show’s finale however was simply stunning, a flowy floor-length v-neck gown in a sheer green and black print swept down the catwalk – this is certainly a red carpet dress for a premiere.

Simply a gorgeous end to a great collection.
