I don’t like to write my awards round-up straight after the event as I like to mull over my best dressed. Sad I know, but I feel sometimes that I when I blog as they are hitting the runway I can either be too harsh or way too excited about an outfit that on reflection isn’t that great.
Well the 68th Golden Globes was definitely a treat, first off it wasn’t raining like last year so already more glitzy than last year, and I was pleased to see some surprises *good and bad* hit the carpet.
Princess Moment
It is always hard to choose my favourite, but this gorgeous top-to-toe sparkly Marchesa gown is special, and I am so pleased that Olivia Wilde (top image) pulled off her ultimate princess moment. I-die-for-this-gown and I think this may be my best dressed.
Long Sleeves
I love long sleeves on a red carpet gown, I think it is always looks so chic and elegant, the skinnier the sleeve the better in my opinion. My favourite was hard to choose between the between the amazing Anne Hathaway in a mirrored-metallic Armani Privé, and Angelina Jolie who always looks sophisticated – but I think Anne pips it ever so slightly.
I am not sure whether this is because I am also kind of addicted with Rachel Zoe, who styled the lovely Anne, or more because it wasn’t just sequins it’s pailettes, I just think it added an extra glamour to this exquisite piece. But come on as soon as she showed off the back I was sold – so sexy and really showed how perfect her figure *want-to-be-here-so-much*.
Other stars who also pulled off long sleeves with an A+ included Leighton Meester *seriously she can do no wrong*, and Tilda Swinton brought her quirky style in a Jil Sander runway look of a white shirt and satin maxi skirt.
One of my favourite looks of the night. Done so well by the Calvin Klein Collection girlies of Emma Stone (above), Claire Danes who always seems to surprise me her neon pink halter was insane, and then you have the prim end of minimal chic with the gorgeous Nicole Kidman in Prada.
Emerald Green
The vibrant colour looked so glamorous, and was a pleasant surprise. I was expecting golds, pink hues, blacks and even prints, but I was completely sidelined by this shade and it totally worked. Angie of course was front of the pack in a floor-skimming Atelier Versace – it is a sequinned beauty and in this shade it shined all the brighter for me.
Then there was Mila Kunis in a one-shoulder pleated Vera Wang, the stunning Elisabeth Moss in a custom Donna Karan – granted more racing green than emerald but still sits within this trend, and Catherine Zeta Jones looked regal in a Monique Lhuillier gown with a hand-tufted skirt – gorgeous.
Classic Black
OK, nothing new seeing black hit an award show, but I had to include it as it really is my go-to-colour *granted I don’t hit the red carpet often – but hey women love black*. I think even though it can seem as a safe option some girlies really brought it, especially Jayma Mays in Alberta Ferreti. Seriously, embellishments, mesh plunging panel, and that fierce fan clutch – LOVE!!
But I also was so happy that my favourite Coyote Ugly Piper Perabo wore Oscar de la Renta as the bow on the shoulder is insane, also great to see her strutting her stuff on the red carpet, I feel like I have not seen her in years. Then there was Eva Longoria in a sleek Zac Posen, Jennifer Lawrence in a black printed flamenco Louis Vuitton, and Kelly Osbourne in an ombre Zac Posen.
Misses
Well there were a number of celebrities missing: some pregnant Penelope Cruz and Kate Hudson; some haven’t got any to promote, are filming, or weren’t nominated *delete as appropriate* Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Garner, Sarah Jessica Parker, Eva Mendes, Anna Paquin etc. There were also a lot of fabulous designers which weren’t represented such as Alexander McQueen, I can remember seeing any Gucci or Yves Saint Laurent, I hoping that some of my favourite runway looks are still to come at the Oscars.
As always I enjoy staying up late, curled up on the sofa, with my Blackberry in one hand and my laptop on my lap, and lots of nibbles at the ready. Now roll on the Oscars, as sadly the SAG Awards at the end of the month aren’t being aired live in Blighty!!
