As you all know I am a huge fan of handbags, I drive my other-half insane finding the perfect one, so the opportunity to check out the SS11 collection of Rebecca Minkoff while she was in London this week, was too good an opportunity to miss. And what a treat it was.
The preview took place in a suite at the swanky Sanderson Hotel, I was already giddy before I got to the room after taking the lift, which was a spectacular stargazing scene, with the twinkling of the stars and the planets coming at you - truly amazing.
First up, Rebecca was so sweet, gorgeous and has an infectious warmth about her, which draws you into her collection. Secondly, her handbag collection for spring/summer 2011 is amazing, there is something for everyone and I like the fact that the classic shapes that I love were still present – just updated.
Rebecca Minkoff has a lot of celebrity followers, and it was interesting to find out that apparently Agyness Deyn has over 100 bags *so very, very jealous*, but I think it is her laid-back California style which makes her handbags and clothes so appealing.
The line inspired by the seduction of Bianca Jagger and rocker Janis Joplin, Rebecca Minkoff has created a ’70s-esque femme vagabond, with reconstructed vintage and ’70s-inspired frocks. As with all her previous collections, texture was present throughout in the hardware on the handbags and clothes; with fine chains, small studds, fringing, sequins, zips, circular silver buttons, as well as perforations and laser-cut detailing to the leather.
There was a great balance to the collection between the delicate and statement that Rebecca does so well. Some of the shapes that I love, like her first ever handbag, and IT bag, the Morning After Bag available again but in different colours, alongside satchels, clutches, draw-string bags, rucksacks, envelope handbags, as well as looking to the fashion-forward women with iPad, laptop and iPhone cases.

Debut Footwear Collection
New this season for Rebecca Minkoff is a gorgeous line of footwear featuring 20 styles, in a variety of silhouettes including booties, platform heels, flats and wedge sandals. I loved the fact the collection featured lots of variety in colours, styles and most importantly for me textures. From the buttery leather booties which will go with everything to the sparkly platform heels (below) that will jazz up any outfit *I’ve added the black and silver ones to my wish list*, to the amazing wedges with the leopard-print heels.
My favourites have to be these nude and black perforated leather platform heels with triangle detailing aka The Vixen (below), they look gorgeous on, and have a padded insole which means they are sure to be very comfortable. I am sure that we will start to see lots of celebs wearing these to red carpet events in the near future.
The prices aren’t too unaffordable either as they start at £170. I promise that when they come on sale next year that you won’t be disappointed – gorgeous, comfortable and classic.
My very memorable visit, had a fairytale ending, as Rebecca Minkoff kindly gifted me one of her handbags. I just couldn’t believe it, so generous of her. So there I was greeted with a double bed filled with different handbags of various shapes, colours and styles – it was like the perfect candy store for me.
It was lovely to have Rebecca there to help me decided which one, as I was having trouble deciding between a raspberry large tote and a cobalt blue Mini Morning After Bag, both gorgeous and completely me. But of course, my heart went for the classic Mini MAG – mainly because of the blue and black spotty lining- it is amazing. It also has a handy Blackberry sized pocket, a key fob and lots of tassles and zips. I was also swayed by the fact that Rebecca said that I would love it more and more when the leather ages. I can’t wait.
It has always been a wish of mine to add a Rebecca Minkoff to my handbag collection and now that I have it will take pride and place. Thanks again Rebecca for a wonderful preview and of course my gorgeous handbag. I so hope that I can make it to New York next fashion week to take in her presentation.
