Prabal Gurung showed his spring/summer 2011 collection in New York today displaying his ability to create the perfect evening gown and showing why so many celebrities love to wear his dresses. This season’s inspiration came with the concept of wanting to dress smart, intelligent girls – and with this came gorgeous dresses just below the knee and elegant necklines.
Once again we saw colour block, geometry shapes and textures gracing the runway. But the pieces that stood out had to be the floor-skimming dresses that I can imagine many a celebrity is asking their stylist to secure for their next red carpet as they were exquisite.

I could really see Diane Kruger wearing this dress to an award ceremony – she would look gorgeous in this.

One of my favourite dresses had to be this one with a pink flower splatter print on it.
But for me the aqua and red collection of dresses were the most wearable of the line. Three quarter sleeves, high neck and calf-length. Elegant and ladylike while still be cool and sexy.

But as with all Prabal’s collections it is the architectural structuring detailing that he delivers in his designs that makes him stand-out from the crowd, displaying his signature pleats, folds and drapes throughout.
The detailing on this front panel is amazing, and the added thigh-slit makes this a sexy, red carpet ready gown.
Overall this collection was pretty, with a lovely injection of colour, refined elegance and most certainly had red carpet appeal to it.
