Trends AW10: Capes From The High Street

One of my favourite trends coming for autumn/winter 2010 has to be the cape, I loved seeing them come down the runway at London Fashion Week in February and its great to see the high street coming up with price-friendly alternatives.

I have picked a number of capes, with the one above from being one of my favourite, I think going for a dark shade is best for me but there are so many camel and beige shades as well, and the hood on this one is an added bonus. Not out until September but already been added to my wish-list.

Second up is this navy military cape from Primark, not due in stores until the beginning of October but with a price tag of just £25 surely it is worth the wait, the addition of the belt makes it a smart alternative to a coat. I also love these wet-look leggings (£7 – end of September) and black lace ankle boots (£15) that the cape has been styled with – makes me excited about the cold weather.

Next up is this designer collaboration with Debenhams from Rocha.John Rocha, this brush cape has leather pipping details and a longer length than most which is what is so flattering. Surprising this cape is only £65 which is a bargain and grey is going to be everywhere so this is a good trend choice.

If you after grey then this one from Tesco is another good contender from the F&F collection, priced £35. The only problem with this one for me is that capes can easily look like a blanket so always make sure you try on a few to see which ones suit you.

For a lighter shade this Monsoon Carmel cape is perfect. I love the knit print as well as the chunky button – perfect to wear to the office, priced £65 due in store in October.

Finishing off with another cape from Primark, again they’ve gone for the military look but this one is lighter than the navy one. I love the ribbed detailing on the large hems, and it is a cheaper alternative to the Monsoon one at only £15 (due in store beginning of September.

Most stores are doing capes and I’ve seen some great ones on press days and from look books from Warehouse, M&S and New Look – so shop around for the perfect one.
