Mad Men just became a TV show I want to watch after seeing these limited-edition Barbies. Mattel have announced that the Mad Men dolls are to be available from July, 2010, and will feature the key players from the Sterling Cooper Advertising Agency: creative director and leading man Don Draper; his wife Betty Draper; Sterling Cooper partner Roger Sterling; and office manager Joan Holloway.
I love Barbie from the ’60s and this collection is divine. The Betty Draper doll looks fab in this floral frock, paired with faux pearl necklace and pumps to match (in the show she is a housewife – so perfect styling). But the standout doll here has to be office bombshell, and admittedly a little more curvier in the show than her doll, Joan Holloway who looks chic in a purple skirt suit and perfectly styled coif with her staple accessory – a pen necklace.
The Ken wannabes have been classic looks, Don Draper wears his classic, polished red-lined suit and comes accessorised with a hat, overcoat and brief case; and Roger Sterling is looking dapper in his monogrammed shirt.
The dolls are part of the premium-priced silkstone series called the Barbie Fashion Model Collection, and will limited each doll to 7,000 to 10,000 copies each, with a suggested retail price of $74.95 each (no word on the UK price). Also to mark the collaboration in every Season 3 DVD set there will be collectible sketch drawings of the Mad Men Barbie dolls.
I think this range has been added to my wishlist – especially after seeing how Haute Doll Magazine styled the dolls in this shoot.
